Basic Information:This medicine is a beta-blocker used to treat an irregular heartbeat. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Information:Before using
WARNING: Because this medicine can cause irregular heartbeats, it is usually started while you are in a hospital where your condition can be closely monitored (e.g., EKG) for at least 3 days. Close monitoring of EKG is also recommended if your dosage is being increased. Do not switch brands of this medicine without checking with your doctor. If you have angina or have had heart problems, do not suddenly stop using this medicine without first consulting your doctor. If your doctor decides you should no longer use this medicine, you must stop this medicine gradually according to your doctor's instructions. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking astemizole, cisapride, mibefradil, terfenadine, or theophylline. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone, clonidine, disopyramide, flecainide, indomethacin, insulin, ketanserin, macrolide antibiotics, prazosin, or verapamil, bepridil, and certain quinolone antibiotics. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of asthma or other breathing problems, heart block, or heart failure. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
Directions
Use this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Take this medicine on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is within 8 hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Cautions
DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using this medicine. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. DO NOT TAKE SELDANE (terfenadine) OR HISMANAL (astemizole) while taking this medicine. BEFORE SWITCHING BRANDS OF THIS MEDICINE, ask your doctor or pharmacist. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes antacids containing aluminum or magnesium. FOR WOMEN: THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST FEED while taking this medicine.
